OMG, that’s so awesome!! Small world, huh?
Hello! I was wondering if you had any recommendations for BJJ. Recently I was convinced that it would be a great activity to take part in and learn and in such a short time I have become rather enamored with it. However I lack the background in how to get information about the small things - gi information, what to wear, etc. Also, this may sound silly, but I am rather apprehensive about actually getting on the mat. Any suggestions?
Hello!!!! BJJ is GREAT! pardon my biased opinion, but it really is.
As far as gathering information, it really depends on the Academy you join. Some places are a lot pickier than others, some have requirements others do not. So really it depends. As far as gi’s go, that’s a whole journey you have to take on yourself. I have 5 gi’s all of them different, but i have that ONE gi that fits me perfect and is my favorite. But that’s not the case for everyone who has that same brand, its an individual comfort choice.
As for what to wear, that’s also personal preference. I usually wear compression or spandex shorts and a t-shirt under my gi.
If you have any more specific questions, or want some websites, forums or just more info about training in general PLEASE let me know :) if there’s one thing i love just as much as training, it’s talking about it. haha.
Also, its OK to be apprehensive about getting on the mat. This sport is intimidating, especially when you push yourself to do it on your own. So don’t feel silly for feeling that way!!! If you’re worried about rolling with guys, find somewhere that has a women’s program or women who train regularly. That way you can get more comfortable with the moves. Plus, its always a good sign when there are women in a martial arts gym!!! that means the ego’s are in check and the coaches make sure safety is a priority.
Can i get some help from my fellow BJJ ladies?! I know there are way better answers to these questions!
I KNOW I am missing people, but these ladies are awesome, and the only ones i could name off the top of my head lol
YASS!!! one of us, one of us, one of — ahem, sorry, I get really excited about ladies and jitz. :)
Okay, this is SUPER LONG, so I’m going to pop a read-more link here:
Lol!! That’s almost as bad as when my team mate, upper belt, told me I needed to really sit on his face to get the move correctly….ummmm. What. No. Just no.
Oh, man, I have so many of those awkward moments in jiu jitsu! It’s like…
That particular north-south day I was rolling with a female friend whose boyfriend also rolls at our gym… she said the last time she practiced north-south with him, he motorboated her boobs.
please put on some pants.
every chick who watches sword art online ii
north-south? you mean, BOOBS TO FACE position, amirite?!?!
(seriously awkward north-south drilling is a major reason i got a legit rashguard to wear under my gi instead of a typical girly-cut tank top)
when you meet another lady at martial arts and there’s a strong “frenemy” vibe, and then, one day, magically, you suddenly realize you’ve become legit mat buddy bff’s
